Spliff:
Its good to see forums being used for topics other than complaints and cries for help! Anyway big hats off to GPG for interacting with their modders and players in such a positive way. Big thumbs down to all the other companies and CEO types who don’t get why it’s so important.
On a related note a friend was complaining to me about the system requirements of SupCom (higher than his PC). I loaded up the game with the debugger window open and showed him how much Lua code was being loaded. Then I showed him all the files (i have them all extracted). As a programmer he immediately understood the implications of what you have done and was forgiving. Most people wont get it though and I’m sure you’ve copped bad press over it; but in the long run I believe your decision was correct. Frankly if SupCom isn’t still being played 20 years from now I’ll be surprised. You’ve sacrificed speed for flexibility on a scale that I’ve never seen before. Just want you to know we modders appreciate it and we’ll do everything we can to make the risk pay off.
Feel free to pass this on to THQ. I’ve often detected the silent hand of publishers behind some of the industries dumbest ideas. If they try to shut you down or tell you what their lawyers think about being so open with your content then tell us and we, your paid-up fans, will blast the s**t out of them
